
The project was entitled "Freedom of Expression" in recognition of the potentially liberating qualities of machine art and the problems of art censorship in contempoary society. It invovled artists from different cities in The Netherlands, Germany, Japan, and the United States. The three day event took place at the Intermedia Studios of the university in Iowa City, from November 6 to 9, 1990.
The fax art dialogue resulted in over 200 individual exchanges, involving three fax machines in an around-the-clock installation, and was one of several public projects inititated by the group throughout the 1990/1991 academic year.
